Wes Kail held his blade, pretending he wanted this. He didn’t. There was an eerie knocking in the back of his skull that he could still turn around and call this all off. Why not? His once close friend Fen stood right there. Sure, he was dripping with dark chaotic energy like a horror from a gruesome children’s tale, but he was still Fen… somewhere.

‘Hey mister perfect,’ said Fen, his eyes still carrying that pretty hazel glint. ‘Are we gonna fight, or what?’

Mister perfect? Someone needs to work on their nicknames. Wes ground his jaw, pinching his cheek to take his mind off the bleeding wounds running like crimson rivers from his gut. His hand still throbbed from the claw slash and reminded him of all his mistakes these last two weeks.

He’d done this.

It was his own actions.

He should’ve forgiven Fen long ago, but now it was time to learn his lesson the hard way. Even though, technically, he’d already learned it from the four or five people who had been telling him to forgive all along. This was it, the showdown that would mean death for one of them. And with the way things were, Wes knew he’d be the one to die.
